We’re excited to announce that ARR project screening is now available in our NbS Project Screening tool.
This addition makes it possible to instantly evaluate the eligibility and carbon potential of pre-investment ARR projects in line with VM0047. In just a few clicks, you can simulate a realistic scenario specific to your project conditions and generate a pre-investment screening report.
Speak to our team to see the tool in action.
Where is the tool available?
ARR screening works worldwide. Projects can be assessed across all regions, supported by Space Intelligence’s screening-grade land cover and above-ground biomass data layers.
Can I adjust the tool to reflect my real-world conditions?
Yes. ARR projects are highly nuanced, so we’ve designed the tool to give you flexibility and control over key parameters. This ensures the screening output reflects scenarios that are closest to your reality. The tool has the power to estimate the best suited parameters automatically, based on remote sensing data from the plot location and scientific literature – which you’ll be able to adjust manually.
Some of those parameters include:
Performance benchmark discount This represents how much of the project’s performance is estimated to have happened without intervention. A value of 0 means all growth is attributed to the project. And a value of 1 means the project shows no significant growth beyond comparable unmanaged areas. This is calculated using the most appropriate stocking index relative to local control plots. The tool will suggest the best suited performance benchmark for the project using timeseries remote sensing estimates of biomass change in the proposed project area. Our team can then support you in selecting the most suitable stocking index and control plots for your project when you’re doing a deeper pre-feasibility study.
Growth curve parameters Because different species grow differently across environments, we let you customise growth dynamics. The tool will select a default growth curve based on the expected growth rate of secondary forests in that area, but you’ll be able to adjust:
Carbon saturation value (carrying capacity): the maximum carbon stock a restored forest can achieve. This value will vary by ecosystem type (lower in drier or sparse forests, higher in wet forests and mangroves).
Growth rate: if you know the species you’re planting, you can set the expected growth rate to reflect your project conditions.
What does the tool show?
Once configured, your ARR screening report will include:
Total eligible area
Whether the project overlaps with any existing Verra projects
Carbon potential in the project area, including predicted cumulative carbon credits potential over the next 50 years, based on your selected parameters
Can I use it now?
Yes. ARR screening is now live in our NbS Project Screening tool.
Join us for a live demo of ARR capabilities on October 9th, 4pm BST / 11am EDT and register here. Alternatively, you can speak to our team today to see how it works and explore how ARR project screening can de-risk and accelerate your project pipeline.
