Space Intelligence raises Series A funding from AzurX Space Ventures, Intercontinental Exchange Inc. (ICE)

We’re excited to announce the close of our Series A funding round, led by AzurX Space Ventures (ASV), a strategic consultancy and investor in space-based technologies, with participation from Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), the global financial data & technology company who operate a number of exchanges around the world, including the New York Stock Exchange.

This new funding will help us in our mission of supporting zero deforestation and mass restoration of biodiverse forests by accelerating the development of a truly global, audit-grade nature mapping dataset.

Why Accuracy Matters

While satellite data is now abundant to evaluate and monitor the impact of nature initiatives, there is a significant lack of accurate insights generated from the raw data consistently across space and time that enables confident decision-making and reporting across all sides of the nature markets.

Space Intelligence’s process takes a science-led approach to mapping the world’s forests to tackle this. We combine multiple types of satellite data, local calibration via expert ecologist input, and machine learning to produce data that meets the stringent requirements of investors, nature markets, and burgeoning legislation – all to ensure impact is accurately measured and communicated with integrity.

To date, we’ve built an audit-grade land cover data catalogue for seven countries, totalling more than 640 million hectares. These datasets are already in use to develop and review forest carbon projects, used by the supply- and demand-side of the voluntary carbon market. This funding will help us accelerate the production of datasets across more regions and time periods to provide.
